Endless Newspaper Fidgeting

Alas, newspapers will not be read on paper in the future. And as such, there has been an endless parading of publisher angst about the state of the news industry, especially regarding its ability to derive revenue. Since industries can change course on a daily basis in the tech world, Martin Langeveld wrestles the new problem: whither will the news come from, mobile devices or reading devices?

As far as news is concerned, with this kind of momentum for mobile delivery, the race (if there ever was one) between smartphones and e-readers may well be over. Sure, e-paper is a superior interface, but smartphones win, because they can do 10, 20 or 100 things besides letting you read black-and-white print.

He might be right, but I’d still invest in a device that typographically reflects newspaper design. But it’s not a Kindle — yet.
